Explore life’s big questions

It’s not often in our busy lives we find time to explore life’s big questions – questions like

‘Why are we here?’

‘Where are we going?’

‘Is there more to life than this?’

And even if we have the time, where could we do so without the risk of feeling embarrassed or got at? One of our objectives at OK New Forest is to give people the opportunity – at least once in life – to make sure their ladder's leaning against the right wall. And to do so in a warm and welcoming setting. We believe The Y Course provides just such an opportunity.

Non-religious & non-threatening

The Y Course is not for those who regard themselves as religious or as having all the answers. There will be no hymn singing or praying. Nothing will be pushed down anyone’s throat. No one will be asked to join anything. Those who attend will find it a relaxed and embarrassment-free place to investigate questions and doubts about God-related issues.

When is it happening?

The dates of our next course have not been finalised - if you are interested in the course, please let us know your contact details so that we can give you further details in due course.

What questions are discussed?

The questions discussed over the eight week course are:

·        Is there more to life than this?

·        Can anyone really know what God is like?

·        Are we expected to believe what happened so long ago?

·        If Jesus was so good why was he executed?

·        Why so much suffering and so many religions?

·        Is there really life after death?

·        Can God make a difference in my life?

·        Who wants to be stuck with a bunch of boring old rules?

What’s the format?

The Y course is very informal. Each session will last for up to 90 minutes starting with food and drink and an opportunity for everyone to relax and get to know one another. We then watch a 30 minute talk on DVD – the talks are lively and interesting and feature a different speaker each week. The participants then break into groups for up to 45 minutes to discuss the issues raised in the talk. Everyone is free to participate in the discussion or if they prefer simply to listen. Each participant is free to express their opinions, doubts or questions – we do insist that everyone’s views must be treated with respect and try to ensure that no one hogs the discussion!

Not Sure?

There is no obligation. The first week of The Y Course is always treated as a taster. Everyone is encouraged to come along, see what it’s like and then decide if they want to continue.

How much does it cost?

There is no charge, but you are welcome to make a small donation towards costs.
